FAQ – Ingredients

Do you use organic ingredients in your products?

For all our products, we attach great importance to the quality and origin of the ingredients. We use valuable oils, extracts and other active ingredients that come from certified organic cultivation wherever possible. With the asterisk (*organic) in the INCI list of the respective product on our website or on the packaging, you can track which ingredients come from organic cultivation.

How do you calculate the natural content of a formula?

The natural origin content of a formula is calculated according to ISO standard 16128 and indicates the percentage of all natural ingredients and ingredients with a natural origin in a product. To calculate the natural origin content of a certain product, the percentages of the individual ingredients are multiplied by the natural index and the results are summed up. The natural origin index of a raw material ranges between 0 and 1. Natural ingredients, such as a vegetable oil, have an index of 1, while purely synthetic ingredients, such as silicone oil, have an index of 0.

Why aren’t all your products 100% natural?

Naturalness is part of our DNA. That’s why we are doing our best to develop products with the highest possible natural ingredient content. At the moment, the percentage of natural ingredients in our products is around 98%. It’s a slight discrepancy to 100%, but one that helps us to offer high quality and efficient products whilst still preserving the formula.

Do your products contain PEGs?

We have committed ourselves to not using PEGs in our newly developed formulas.
In keeping with our mission, we are constantly working to make the formulas of products that have been on the market for some time more natural – so that these, too, will be PEG-free in the future.

Do your products contain phenoxyethanol?

Phenoxyethanol is a widely used cosmetic preservative that is considered safe up to 1%. We avoid using phenoxyethanol as a preservative in the formula development of new products out of personal conviction. Sometimes, though, it happens that a single active ingredient has to be preserved with phenoxyethanol. In these cases, we contact the supplier to find out whether the same ingredient is also available with an alternative preservative. Since this has not been always possible in the past, phenoxyethanol occasionally appears in the ingredient lists of the products. In order to make the products that have been on the market for some time even more natural and in keeping with our mission, these will also be gradually reformulated to be without phenoxyethanol.

Do your products contain titanium dioxide?

Titanium dioxide is a safe and widely used substance that also occurs in natural cosmetics. We often use titanium dioxide for the shimmer particles or color/colour pigments in our products. It comes from a mineral and therefore from a natural source.

We do not use titanium dioxide in nanoparticles because they are under discussion. Study data suggest that these nanoparticles can partially penetrate the skin or cause lung damage if a large amount is regularly inhaled. In our products, titanium dioxide is always part of a solid compound and contained in a formula matrix, so any risk of inhalation can be excluded.

Do your products contain parabens?

Out of personal conviction, we have decided not to use parabens, silicones, mineral oils/mineral waxes or microplastics (as defined by UNEP 2015) in the development of new products. You can find all information about HelloBody’s ingredient philosophy here.
